The RCBC provides beth din dispute resolution services, and also operates a beth din for conversions.
Dispute resolution is conducted by the RCBC through an arrangement with the Beth Din of America. Dinei torah are governed by the Rules and Procedures of the Beth Din of America. Please complete the form below to open a case, or email rcbc@bethdin.org with any questions.
The Conversion Beth Din of the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County is a member of the GPS Network of Conversion Courts overseen by the Beth Din of America. Visit the Beth Din’s conversion website for more information.
There are different ways to resolve disputes with the RCBC. In a mediation, the parties meet with someone who can help guide them to a negotiated settlement. If the parties reach an agreement, they then sign a settlement agreement which is legally binding. In a din torah, or arbitration, the parties agree to be bound by the decision of the beth din, hearings take place before the beth din, and the beth din issues a psak, or decision, that is legally binding. It is also possible to sign an arbitration agreement that allows the parties to attempt mediation first and then, if no settlement is reached, arbitrate the case in a din torah.
You can request for a summons (hazmana) to be sent to a defendant. The hazmana process is conducted by the Beth Din of America.
